RCBC Releases Report on EPR Priorities

RCBC's Report on EPR Priorities is the culmination of research conducted by RCBC staff over the last two years. The process included broad stakeholder engagement from the public across B.C., as well as from waste professionals and policy makers at all levels of government, from business and industry and related non-profits. Stakeholders identified priority materials for EPR inclusion, as well as suggesting improvements and refinements for existing programs.

Canada Takes Action on Plastics

The Government of Canada announced a move to reduce plastic waste and work to develop a more sustainable circular economy. These actions includes a Canada-wide Zero Plastic Waste Action Plan to coordinate federal efforts with the provinces and territories that have jurisdiction for waste and recycling.

Harmonization to BC’s EPR Policies Could Lead to National Strategy

As a recent three-part series by Global News revealed in its final segment, there is not a nation-wide homogeneous approach to municipal/residential recycling in Canada. In all cases, it’s a provincial jurisdiction, in which each province and territory determines its own recycling policies and process. Any discussion of a national strategy should focus on which of those polices has proven to be the most effective, particularly in this changing landscape of access to international markets and the transition domestically to a more circular economy.

RCBC 2019 Environmental Awards

Nominations are now open for the 20th annual RCBC MOBI Environmental Awards. The awards celebrate achievements of British Columbians striving to work towards a world without waste.

Nominations are open for eight different sectors, including: educators, youth, public sector, private sector, innovation, media/journalism, non-profit and lifetime achievement. Submissions are currently being accepted online at until March 17th, 2019. RCBC encourages those making sustainability a priority in their community or organization to apply.
